Gulf SideWhales:
Though they are known to migrate in other parts of their range, the Gulf of California has
its own resident populations of truly remarkable cetaceans. The Blue Whale, the largest creature
ever to live on Planet Earth, is commonly seen in the Canal de las Ballenas (Channel of the
Whales) between Loreto and its nearshore islands. A trip there can also afford sightings of
Grays, Humpbacks, Minkes, Finbacks, Orcas, and Sperm and Pilot Whales, as well as enormous
pods of Dolphins and Porpoise. Spectacular island scenery, birds, and the fabulous blue Gulf
round out a fine outing.
